Global food prices have begun to rise due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
In its latest monthly Food Price Index
report, the FAO stated that global food prices increased by 2.4% between
February and March. This marks the second consecutive month of rising food
prices worldwide.
The agency explained that escalating tensions
in the Middle East have pushed up global oil prices, which in turn are
increasing the cost of food production and transportation. As a result,
international food markets are experiencing upward price pressure.
Particular concern surrounds instability in
the Strait of Hormuz—a key global oil shipping route. Continued disruption in
this region could further complicate the situation.
The FAO warned that food-import-dependent countries may face higher costs in the coming months if the crisis persists.
