Allegations have been raised against a man named Ali Akbar for allegedly using his claimed political connections to influence various government offices in Chattogram, intimidate government officials and employees, pressure them to award contracts unfairly, use abusive language and file allegedly harassing complaints.
A demand has been made for an impartial investigation into the allegations against Ali Akbar and for appropriate action to be taken if the claims are found to be true. The complainants have also requested that the alleged communication and cooperation between Ali Akbar and Ahmed Abdus Sabur be brought under investigation.
According to the allegations, Ali Akbar has been visiting various government offices and presenting himself as a person close to the current government and as a “worker during difficult times,” allegedly using this identity to exert undue influence over government officials and employees.
It has further been alleged that when officials do not act according to his expectations, he intimidates them, uses inappropriate language and attempts to harass them by filing complaints under different names, including anonymous complaints.
He has also been accused of exerting unethical pressure on officials to secure government and contracting work and behaving in an uncivil manner when such efforts fail.
The allegations further state that a man named Ahmed Abdus Sabur has allegedly supported and encouraged such activities. According to the complaint, he previously served as president of the Contractors’ Association of the Chattogram Public Works Maintenance Division during the tenure of the previous government.
The complainants alleged that, in the past, attempts were made to establish discrimination, political influence and exclusive control over contracting activities within the Public Works Maintenance Division.
They further claimed that contractors affiliated with or supportive of the BNP were allegedly denied equal opportunities for work, prevented from entering office premises and subjected to intimidation.
There are also allegations that an informal system was created in connection with contracting work, requiring unofficial approval or consent and allegedly involving demands for improper financial benefits or commissions.
The complaint also alleges inappropriate behaviour toward government officials and employees and the filing of complaints under various names to keep officials and contractors under pressure.
It has further been alleged that the individuals concerned may have been involved in occupying abandoned government properties, particularly abandoned government houses, and illegally collecting rent from them.
According to the complainants, Ali Akbar is currently attempting to exert influence over various government offices by identifying himself as a “worker during difficult times” for the government.
They also said that his alleged close communication and cooperation with Ahmed Abdus Sabur, who was previously known as an influential contractor, have raised questions in different circles.
The complainants believe that, if the allegations are proven true, such intimidation and unethical pressure on government officials and employees could disrupt the normal functioning of the administration and damage the image of the political party concerned.
They have therefore called for an investigation into whether political identity is being used by anyone to pursue personal or business interests.
The complainants have demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations against Ali Akbar, including accusations of intimidating government officials and employees, exerting undue pressure, using abusive language, attempting to secure work through unethical means and filing harassing complaints.
They have also called for an investigation into his current communication and cooperation with Ahmed Abdus Sabur, as well as allegations of past discrimination against contractors and the acceptance of improper benefits within the Public Works Maintenance Division.
The complainants further urged authorities to investigate allegations relating to the occupation of government property and the illegal collection of rent.
They said that if the allegations are proven through a proper investigation, necessary action should be taken in accordance with existing laws and regulations to protect organisational discipline and the image of the political party.
However, comments from Ali Akbar and Ahmed Abdus Sabur regarding the allegations could not be obtained immediately. The veracity of the allegations can only be established through an independent and impartial investigation.
