Bangladesh's Appellate Division has ruled
that there is no longer any legal obstacle to recruiting head teachers for
approximately 32,000 government primary schools across the
country.
The four-member bench, headed by Chief
Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, delivered the verdict on
Thursday.
The Appellate Division allowed the state's
appeal by overturning a 2019 High Court judgment. As a result, the recruitment
process for head teachers, which had remained stalled due to legal
complications since 2013, can now proceed.
Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal said that the number of vacant head teacher positions has increased to around 32,000 over the years due to retirements and other vacancies. Following the Supreme Court's ruling, the government will now be able to move forward with appointing head teachers to these vacant posts.
