Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken a firm stance against political strikes, saying no one will be allowed to create instability or disrupt public life under the guise of hartal.

He made the remarks while addressing a public rally at the Jessore Eidgah Maidan, organized by the local unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

In his speech, the prime minister criticized opposition groups, accusing them of continuing to mislead people. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against such efforts and emphasized that the era of prolonged disruption in the name of political movement will not be allowed to return.

Highlighting the government’s position, he said maintaining peace and stability remains a top priority. “Public suffering caused by strikes will not be tolerated,” he added.

On development initiatives, he announced plans to expand the family card program and reopen closed industrial factories. He also made a significant commitment in the education sector, stating that the government is working to make education free for girls up to the undergraduate level.

Referring to past policies, he mentioned continuing education initiatives introduced during the tenure of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Leaders from the party’s central and local units also spoke at the rally, which was presided over by district BNP president Syed Saberul Haque Sabu. Earlier in the day, the prime minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several development projects in the district.
