Chattogram DC Distributes Blankets to Cold-Stricken People at Midnight

In a remarkable display of compassion amid a biting cold wave, the District Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Chattogram, Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah, personally led a midnight winter relief drive to support cold-stricken and homeless people across the city.
Responding to the severity of the cold, the Chattogram District Administration distributed 500 blankets among poor, disabled, homeless and floating people from 11:00 pm to 1:00 am on Saturday (December 28). The initiative aimed to provide immediate relief to those spending the night on footpaths, railway stations and open spaces.
The District Commissioner visited several key locations including DC Hill, Kazir Dewri, CRB area, Chattogram Railway Station vicinity, areas adjacent to the Shilpakala Academy and Mehedibag, personally handing over blankets to the needy.
Humanity in Action
The presence of the District Commissioner on the city streets late at night brought comfort and reassurance to the vulnerable. For many recipients, the blankets were not only protection from the cold but also a strong message of care and responsibility from the administration.
Joint Administrative Effort
Senior officials, including the Deputy Director (Local Government), Additional Deputy Commissioners, the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, and other senior officials of the district administration, were present to supervise the operation, ensuring a smooth and orderly distribution process.
Relief Activities to Continue
Speaking to the media, District Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Miah said the district administration would continue such humanitarian activities to ease the suffering of cold-affected people. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to stand by the disadvantaged for as long as the cold weather persists.
The midnight relief operation has been widely appreciated by city residents, setting an example of proactive and people-centric governance during times of hardship.
