The Upazila administration has conducted separate operations in Jaintapur Upazila, Sylhet district, against the illegal collection, stockpiling, and extraction of sand and stone. During the drives, one individual was fined Tk 50,000, and 15 small 'Barki' boats used for illegal sand extraction were seized and destroyed. On Monday (October 6) at around 5 PM, a mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sunanda Roy was conducted at a mill adjacent to the No. 2 Lakshmipur Rangpani Central Jame Mosque on the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway. An individual named Sarwar was fined Tk 50,000 for his involvement in the collection, stockpiling, and sale of red stones mixed with sand. Separately, on Tuesday (October 7), a task force operation was carried out between 12 PM and 3 PM on the Rangpani River in the Bangla Bazar area (Ward No. 4) of No. 2 Jaintapur Union. Members of the BGB and police assisted in the operation, which was led by the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Monirul Islam. During the drive, 15 small 'Barki' boats used for illegal sand extraction from the Rangpani River were seized and subsequently destroyed. The Upazila administration stated that operations against the illegal extraction, stockpiling, and sale of sand and stone will continue in order to protect the river and government resources.
