RAB-6 has arrested a man with 50 kilograms of cannabis during a special operation in Mongla of Bagerhat.

The arrested person has been identified as Gopal Sarker, 52, son of Shyam Sarker of Kainmari area under Mongla Police Station.

According to RAB-6, the operation was conducted at around 12:25 am on Wednesday in the Dighraj area of Mongla based on confidential information.

A team of RAB-6 Headquarters Company conducted the operation after receiving information about a suspected drug consignment in the area. During the operation, the team detained Gopal Sarker and conducted a search, recovering 50 kilograms of cannabis.

RAB officials said preliminary interrogation indicated that Gopal Sarker had allegedly been involved in the illegal drug trade in Mongla and surrounding areas for a considerable period.

The seized cannabis was documented and confiscated in accordance with legal procedures in the presence of witnesses. Investigators are now looking into the source of the drugs and whether other individuals are involved in their supply and distribution.

RAB-6 said legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are being initiated against the arrested person at Mongla Police Station. He will subsequently be handed over to the police along with the seized narcotics for further legal action.

RAB said its anti-drug operations will continue as part of its ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade.
