According to a report by ANI, Bora was released after the formal procedure under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. Meanwhile, action has been taken against Deepak under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said he was to be produced before a special executive magistrate.
The CJP claimed that more than eight hours had passed since Deepak’s detention without the party being informed of his whereabouts. Party leader Ajinka Shinde alleged that neither lawyers nor party members had been allowed to contact him.
Deepak was detained from his residence ahead of the Lehra Do Tiranga march scheduled to take place at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on Friday. Bora was detained near Jantar Mantar on the same day. She had also been detained on October 10 before being released.
The CJP had organised the march demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The report said police had issued Deepak a notice several hours before the programme, asking him not to organise the protest.
Two other CJP leaders, Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, also remain in custody. According to the report, they are being held in judicial custody for five days. Meanwhile, police and security personnel dispersed protesters who had gathered at Connaught Place.
