The Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah has written to Saudi Arabia seeking detailed information following reports that two Bangladeshi nationals were executed over allegations of immoral acts inside a mosque in Makkah.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jeddah consulate said the letter was sent to the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s office in Jeddah on Thursday. It seeks details of the allegations against the two Bangladeshis, the case proceedings and the court verdict.

A consulate official said that although reports of the executions had appeared in the media, the Bangladesh mission had received no diplomatic communication or official information regarding the trial or the implementation of the sentences.

According to Saudi media reports, the death sentences of two Bangladeshis, identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Sithi Akter, were carried out on Wednesday over allegations of immoral acts inside a mosque in Makkah.

The Bangladesh consulate is now awaiting a response from Saudi authorities to clarify the allegations, details of the cases and the court rulings.
