The Sonalia Karotia Railway Station has been inaugurated in Tangail. The station was formally opened on Saturday morning at Karotia in Tangail Sadar upazila by Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain, who cut the ribbon and waved the green flag to signal the start of operations.
During the inauguration, Director General Md. Afzal Hossain said that services have initially begun with the Rajshahi Mail local train, and the number of trains will be increased gradually, including the Sirajganj Express. He also mentioned plans to introduce a Tangail commuter train in the future.
Among those present at the ceremony were Pakshi Railway Division Manager Liakat Ali Khan Sharif, Divisional Commercial Officer Gautam Kumar Kundu, former Member of Parliament Morshed Ali Khan Panni, Principal of HM Institute and College Abul Kalam Azad, and President of the National Journalists’ Association, Tangail District Unit, Masudur Rahman Milon, among others.
Local residents said that the inauguration of the railway station will greatly benefit several hundred thousand people, including residents of Basail and Sakhipur upazilas, as well as students and visitors of the historic Government Sadat College and Karotia Hat, by improving transportation and communication facilities in the region.
