Members of Rapid Action Battalion
have arrested madrasa director Aman Ullah Sagar in connection with a case filed
over the alleged rape of an 11-year-old madrasa student in Madan Upazila.
He was detained Tuesday night during a raid in the Gouripur area by a team from RAB-14. Authorities said he will be handed over to Netrokona Police through a press briefing in Mymensingh on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested Aman Ullah Sagar is the
director of Hazrat Fatema Tujjahura Mohila Qaumi Madrasa in Madan Upazila. He
is a resident of the Panchhar Borobari village in Kaitail union.
Officer-in-Charge of Madan Police
Station, Md. Tarikul Islam, said law enforcement agencies had been conducting
operations to arrest him since the case was filed. He was eventually detained
based on confidential information.
According to the case statement,
Aman Ullah Sagar established the madrasa around four years ago. The child
victim had been staying at her grandfather’s house while studying there, while
her mother worked as a domestic worker in Sylhet.
The girl’s mother reportedly became
concerned after noticing physical changes and illness in her daughter. On April
18, medical tests conducted at a clinic in Madan Upazila confirmed that the
child was pregnant.
Following the incident, the victim’s
mother filed a case at Madan Police Station last Thursday. After the case was
filed, the accused teacher went into hiding.
Meanwhile, in a video message circulated on social media Tuesday, Aman Ullah Sagar claimed he was innocent.
