The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested two suspected smugglers and seized a large consignment of electronic appliances during an anti-smuggling operation in Patenga, Chattogram.

According to the Coast Guard, intelligence reports indicated that a smuggling syndicate was planning to unload electronic goods from a commercial vessel anchored at Pontoon No. 10 under Patenga Police Station, with the intention of evading customs duties and distributing the products in the local market.

Acting on the information, personnel from the Patenga Coast Guard Outpost conducted a special operation at around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. During the raid, officers searched a suspicious truck and recovered electronic goods worth approximately BDT 1,052,800 (10.53 lakh).

The seized items included one refrigerator, one deep freezer, two washing machines, one portable air conditioner, four full-unit air conditioners, and one outdoor AC unit.

The Coast Guard also seized the truck used in the smuggling operation and arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the illegal activity.

Authorities said legal proceedings against the detainees are currently underway.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard reiterated its commitment to continuing anti-smuggling operations across the country to protect the national economy and prevent illegal trade.
