Fresh uncertainty has emerged over whether the ongoing ceasefire between the United States and Iran will survive, as both sides continue to reject each other’s proposals and counterproposals as “unacceptable” and “unreasonable.” The growing disagreement has raised fears of renewed conflict across the Middle East.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the current state of the ceasefire as extremely fragile. According to him, the agreement is now “on life support,” warning that the situation could deteriorate further if negotiations fail.
Meanwhile, Iran has remained firm in its position. Tehran argues that Washington’s demands are unrealistic. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that Iran’s primary goals are ending the conflict, lifting sanctions, and restoring normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has also demanded the return of frozen Iranian assets.
Diplomatic sources say that despite several rounds of talks, the two sides have failed to reach any meaningful agreement. Amid the deadlock, Trump is scheduled to visit China next Thursday, where he is expected to discuss Beijing’s stance on the Iran issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The rising tensions have already begun affecting global markets. International crude oil prices have climbed above $103 per barrel, while gold prices have slightly declined. Analysts warn that if the Middle East situation worsens further, the global energy market could face severe instability.
Several countries, including India, have already started taking emergency precautions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary gold purchases and reduce fuel consumption, as a significant portion of India’s energy imports depends on the Strait of Hormuz.
Some experts believe that behind the ongoing negotiations, both sides are attempting to strengthen their strategic positions. Iranian analysts claim that Washington is using delaying tactics to create opportunities for renewed military pressure. However, Tehran has also indicated that it is prepared to respond if necessary.
Meanwhile, China has proposed a four-point peace initiative aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East. Iran has expressed support for Beijing’s proposal, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to ensure regional security and economic stability.
