A Farm Day 2026 program titled "Increasing Sugarcane Yield and Producing Quality Sugarcane through the Application of Improved Cultivation Techniques" was held.

On Saturday, June 21, at 11:00 AM, a discussion meeting and sugarcane field visit were organized at Jagirpara (Dumurtala), Halidagachhi, Charghat, Rajshahi as part of the Farm Day 2026 program.

The chief guest at the event was Abu Saeed Chand, Member of Parliament for the Rajshahi-6 (Charghat-Bagha) Constituency constituency. Special guests included Dr. Zebun Nahar Ferdous, Chief (CPE) of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Headquarters, Dhaka, and Rownoshara Arju, General Manager (Seed Inspection) of the same organization. The meeting was chaired by Md. Humayun Kabir, Managing Director of Rajshahi Sugar Mills Limited.

In his speech, MP Abu Saeed Chand said that if the sugar industry is to become profitable, the country's sugar mills must be modernized. He stated that he had already discussed the matter with the Ministry of Industries and expressed hope that he would raise in Parliament ways to make Rajshahi's sugar mills and the sugar industry more profitable.

Dr. Zebun Nahar Ferdous said that farmers would benefit from sugarcane cultivation if they followed the recommendations provided by agricultural experts and took proper care of their crops. She noted that large quantities of fertilizer are being supplied and timely advice is being given for controlling harmful pests. Compared to last year, the sugarcane crop is performing much better this year, and the mills are expected to operate for a longer period. She further added that sugarcane is now a profitable crop, as farmers are earning additional income by cultivating companion crops alongside sugarcane on the same land. She encouraged farmers to increase sugarcane cultivation to help sustain the sugar industry.

Among others present at the event were Md. Jamal Hossain, General Manager (Finance); Mostafa Sarwar, General Manager (Administration); Maksuda Parvin, General Manager (Agriculture); Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, DGM (Seed and Agro); Partha Pratim Saha, Deputy Manager (Accounts); and Mohammad Masud Rana, President of the Workers and Employees Union, along with General Secretary Md. Rafiqul Islam.

All sub-zone heads and sugarcane farmers from nine sub-zones also attended the program. The event was conducted by Md. Emdadul Haque, DGM (Extension), and was attended by numerous sugarcane growers.
