Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Depot In-Charge (Assistant General Manager) of Meghna Petroleum Limited’s Godnail depot in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, has been praised for standing firm against alleged unethical pressure and demonstrating honesty and courage.

He reportedly took a strong stance against an attempt to obtain fuel illegally from the depot by a man allegedly claiming to represent the personal secretary (PS) of a local lawmaker. Following the filing of a regular case with Siddhirganj Police Station over the alleged lobbying and threats against the depot official, police arrested the main accused, Rashed Ahmed, named in the case.

Rashed Ahmed is a resident of the S.O. Road area of Siddhirganj.

Local sources and depot officials and employees said significant changes have taken place in the overall operations of the Godnail Meghna depot since Mahbubur Rahman took charge as its in-charge.

They said he has not allowed any activities outside government regulations. By taking strict measures against longstanding irregularities, fuel wastage and unauthorised entry, he has brought greater transparency and discipline to the depot, they claimed.

According to depot officials and the case statement, Rashed Ahmed approached Depot In-Charge Mahbubur Rahman using the name of a vehicle belonging to the local lawmaker’s PS. He allegedly demanded 500 litres of octane every month from the depot free of charge.

Mahbubur Rahman reportedly refused to provide any such benefit outside government rules and regulations. Rashed Ahmed then allegedly threatened to have the depot official transferred and dismissed from his job, creating intense mental pressure on him.

Despite the alleged intimidation and pressure from influential quarters, Mahbubur Rahman remained firm in protecting government property. He subsequently decided to address the matter through legal channels and filed a written complaint with Siddhirganj Police Station.

Police confirmed that a regular case was filed at Siddhirganj Police Station based on the depot official’s written complaint.

Considering the seriousness of the case, Narayanganj District Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Habibur Rahman has been personally monitoring the investigation, according to police. Acting under the direct guidance of the district police chief, a police team conducted a raid in the Mondolpara area of S.O. Road in Siddhirganj and arrested Rashed Ahmed.

Siddhirganj Police said the arrested accused was produced before a court with a seven-day remand plea.

The district police have made it clear that anyone attempting to obtain illegal benefits from a government institution through intimidation or political influence will face strict legal action, regardless of their identity.

Local community members have praised Mahbubur Rahman’s uncompromising stance in protecting government resources and bringing changes to the depot, as well as the police administration’s swift and effective action in the case.
