The Bangladesh Election Commission has
declared the nominations of 36 candidates from the BNP-led alliance and one
independent alliance candidate valid for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th
National Parliament. At the same time, nominations of two independent
candidates were rejected due to technical errors.
The decision was announced Thursday at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on
the final day of scrutiny, marking the end of the two-day Verification
process.
The scrutiny was conducted under the leadership of Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Moin
Uddin Khan, in the presence of relevant officials.
On the final day, nominations of candidates
from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and independent alliances were
reviewed. Two independent candidates were disqualified due to missing proposer
and seconder signatures.
Earlier, a total of 53 candidates submitted
nomination papers within the stipulated deadline. On the first day of scrutiny,
nominations from other alliances were also reviewed, with most candidates being
declared valid.
According to the election schedule announced
by the EC, voting for the reserved women’s seats will be held on May 12.
Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nominations until April
29.
Election observers believe that with the
scrutiny process completed, candidates will now intensify their campaigns and
preparations for the upcoming election.
