The Rampal Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat has continued to make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s national power grid by maintaining a high level of electricity generation amid ongoing challenges in the country’s power sector.
According to the latest data from Power Grid Bangladesh, the plant generated around 643.6 million units of electricity between August 1 and August 25. With an installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts, the facility supplied an average of 1,073 MW to the national grid during the 25-day period.
The plant also recorded substantial generation in June, producing around 827.3 million units of electricity. Its average generation during that month stood at 1,149 MW.
Khan Noman Shibli, deputy manager of the Rampal power plant, said electricity generation is being carried out in accordance with international standards, with environmental protection receiving particular attention.
The plant has also made progress in developing local technical expertise. Anwarul Azim, general manager and chief human resources officer, said Bangladeshi engineers are now handling the plant’s operational activities. He said local engineers have benefited from the training and technical support previously provided by Indian engineers. The Indian experts are currently serving mainly in advisory roles.
Managing Director Ramanath Pujari said the plant would continue its efforts to supply electricity according to the requirements of the national grid while maintaining environmental standards.
Energy-sector observers say ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply, regular maintenance and efficient operation will be crucial to sustaining Rampal’s generation capacity. Maintaining its current level of production could further strengthen the plant’s contribution to the national grid during periods of high electricity demand.
