The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has finalised its candidates for two parliamentary constituencies in Bagerhat district, ending long-standing speculation.
For Bagerhat-2 (Bagerhat Sadar–Kachua), the party has nominated Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, a Supreme Court lawyer and a member of the Bagerhat District BNP convening committee.
Meanwhile, Dr Sheikh Faridul Islam, Joint Convener of the district BNP, has been nominated for Bagerhat-3 (Mongla–Rampal).
Both leaders confirmed their nominations on Saturday (20 December) through posts on their verified Facebook accounts.
In his post, Barrister Zakir Hossain said he had been nominated as the BNP candidate with the party’s symbol “Sheaf of Paddy” for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. He sought prayers and support from party leaders and the public.
Dr Sheikh Faridul Islam, in a separate post, expressed gratitude to the BNP leadership for nominating him in Bagerhat-3 and called for unity within the party to ensure victory in the election.
Dr Faridul Islam has long been involved in BNP politics and previously served as a senior district leader. He was also active in student politics during his academic years at Dhaka University.
Meanwhile, BNP candidates for Bagerhat-1 and Bagerhat-4 constituencies have yet to be finalised.
