Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit his home district Bogura today (Monday) on his first official tour since assuming office. The visit has sparked widespread interest and high expectations among local residents, who are hoping for long-awaited development initiatives.

According to sources at the Prime Minister's Office, he will depart capital Gulshan by road in the morning and is expected to reach the Bogura Circuit House around 10:30 AM. After attending a series of programs throughout the day, he will return to Dhaka in the evening. As part of the visit, he is also scheduled to go to his ancestral home in Gabtali, specifically Bagbari, for the first time in nearly two decades.

Residents of Bogura have long-standing demands, including the establishment of a public university, introduction of commercial flights, formation of a city corporation, construction of a Bogura–Sirajganj railway line, restoration of the Karatoya River, and improvements to ease traffic congestion. Additional demands include a new bridge over the Jamuna River, divisional status for the region, a television center, and an LPG depot.

The Bogura Nagorik Forum has submitted a total of 23 demands. Its leaders are hopeful that at least some key decisions will be announced during the Prime Minister’s visit.

The day’s itinerary includes the unveiling of the Bogura City Corporation plaque, inauguration of various development projects in Gabtali, launch of vaccination programs, and opening of a court building and other facilities. He is also scheduled to address a public rally at Altafunnessa Playground in the town.

Local governance activists say Bogura has long been deprived of major development projects and expect that, as a native of the district, the Prime Minister will prioritize its progress. Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) also expressed optimism that the visit will bring tangible benefits to the region.

Overall, the visit has created a renewed sense of hope and anticipation among the people of Bogura.
