A mobile court conducted by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) at its Dhaka Metro Circle-1 office in Mirpur-13 sentenced two brokers to jail and fined three others as part of an ongoing drive to eliminate middlemen and ensure hassle-free services for customers.

The operation was led on Wednesday by BRTA Executive Magistrate Md. Anisuzzaman, with assistance from BRTA Ansar Commander Mohammad Khorshed Alam and other members of the force.

According to BRTA officials, the detained individuals admitted their involvement in fraudulent activities before the court. The magistrate sentenced two of them to 30 days' simple imprisonment each, while the remaining three were fined a total of Tk 20,000. The three were released after paying the fines.

The two individuals sentenced to jail were identified as Md. Mozaffar Hossain (50), son of Abdul Motalib, and Mahmud Hasan (58), son of Mohammad Haidar Ali. During the operation, several other suspected members of the broker network fled the scene.

Executive Magistrate Md. Anisuzzaman said complaints had been received that brokers were deceiving BRTA service seekers by promising to expedite official procedures, collecting money and documents before disappearing.

"Operations against brokers and fraudsters are ongoing and will continue in the future to protect citizens from harassment," he said.

BRTA Ansar Commander Mohammad Khorshed Alam said the Ansar personnel would continue to work closely with the executive magistrate to keep BRTA offices free from brokers and ensure a safe and transparent service environment.

He added that maintaining law and order during the drive was a key priority and reaffirmed the force's commitment to performing its duties with honesty and professionalism while supporting BRTA's efforts to eliminate brokers and fraudsters from its offices.
