A two-year-old boy named Tishan Barai tragically drowned in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat. The incident occurred around 9:00 am on Thursday at Kaloni village, located near the Mollarhat border, when the child accidentally slipped into a canal connected to the Naluya River. Tishan was the only son of local resident Santos Barai.
According to the family, the child’s mother was busy with household chores when Tishan wandered out of the yard. After failing to find him nearby, the family began searching and later discovered him floating in the canal. He was quickly taken to the Mollarhat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The sudden death has cast a pall of grief over the family and community. Locals said that unprotected water bodies near homes pose a constant risk for children. They urged authorities and residents to take preventive safety measures to avoid such tragedies.
