Dhaka College has emerged as the highest-ranked institution among the country’s ‘A’ category government colleges, according to a newly issued classification by the Ministry of Education. The categorization, announced on Monday by the Secondary and Higher Education Division, places 708 government colleges into four tiers—A, B, C, and D—based on academic capacity, student population, and the breadth of honours and postgraduate programs.
The ministry stated that the reclassification was carried out to streamline administrative functions and ensure quality enhancement across higher secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. Institutions included in the ‘A’ category must have over 8,000 students and more than 10 honours disciplines—a benchmark Dhaka College not only meets but exceeds, securing its position at the top of the list.
Nationwide, 81 government colleges qualified for the ‘A’ category, followed by 74 in ‘B’, a significantly larger 446 in ‘C’, and 107 in ‘D’. Colleges placed in the top tier are recognized for their academic strength, extensive programs, and institutional capacity.
With its rich academic legacy, robust enrollment, and wide array of honours and master’s programs, Dhaka College continues to affirm its status as one of the country’s most distinguished centers of higher education. This recognition marks a notable achievement for its community of students, educators, and administrators.
