Police have arrested an alleged drug dealer
with 4 kilograms of dried cannabis during a special drive in the Phulbaria area
of Turag in the capital. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around
Tk 120,000.
The operation was conducted at around 9:25 pm
on July 22 by a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Abu Hasan under the
direction of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Turag Police Station. Acting on a
tip-off, police raided a house in the Phulbaria area and arrested Md. Russell, 28.
According to police, the suspect attempted to
flee when officers arrived but was quickly apprehended. A search of a black
plastic bag in his possession led to the recovery of 4 kilograms of dried
cannabis.
Police said Russell is a resident of Nalchity
Upazila in Jhalakathi district. During preliminary interrogation, he allegedly
admitted to bringing cannabis from Brahmanbaria and supplying it to different
areas of Dhaka for a long time.
Police have seized the recovered narcotics, and legal proceedings are underway to file a case against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act at Turag Police Station.
