Donald Trump has temporarily suspended a
potential large-scale military strike on Iran for two weeks, offering brief in
the already tense Middle East situation.
However, the pause comes with a key
condition. Trump stated that Iran must immediately ensure that the Strait of
Hormuz is fully open and safe for international shipping. The continuation of
this suspension depends on fulfilling that requirement.
The decision was reportedly influenced by
mediation efforts from Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief
Asim Munir played key roles in proposing a framework for de-escalation.
According to Trump’s statement on social
media, the proposal from Pakistan, along with a 10-point plan presented by
Iran, has opened the possibility of a “mutual ceasefire” between the two sides.
Analysts say that while this temporary pause creates space for diplomatic negotiations, tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remain fragile. If disagreements persist, the situation could quickly escalate again, impacting global energy routes and regional stability.
