Police arrested an
alleged drug dealer and seized 360 kilograms of cannabis during a special
anti-drug operation in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
According to police, a
team from Kasba Police Station carried out the raid on July 19, 2026, at around
2:15 pm, following a tip-off. During the operation in the Hazipur area under
Binauti Union, officers stopped and searched an unregistered pickup truck.
During the search,
police recovered 360 kg of cannabis hidden inside the vehicle. The drugs were
seized in the presence of witnesses following legal procedures. The pickup
truck used to transport the drugs was also impounded.
The arrested suspect
has been identified as Shakil, son of Shafik, a resident of Kalta village in
Kasba upazila, Brahmanbaria.
Police said that
preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused had four previous
drug-related cases filed against him.
A case has been
registered under the Narcotics Control Act with Kasba Police Station. Police
said an investigation is underway to identify other members of the drug
trafficking network and trace the source and intended destination of the seized
cannabis.
The authorities added that anti-narcotics operations will continue as part of the government's zero-tolerance policy against drugs.
